How to Apply for a Passport in Kenya
The Directorate of Immigration Services issues passports to Kenyan citizens, allowing them to travel abroad for a maximum period of ten (10) years. The authority for this comes from section 27(1) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 and Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Regulation 2012, legal notice No. 64.
The Passport Section operates under the authority mainly from Sections 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 and related Regulations.
In September 2017, Kenya introduced the e-Passport system to issue digital passports, aligning with ICAO document 9303 and the East African Community Summit resolution. Passport application and processing facilities are available in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Embu, Nakuru, Kisii, and Eldoret, as well as in six foreign missions: London, Washington DC, Berlin, Pretoria, Dubai, and Paris.
