What Happened During the Cosafa Cup?
Kenya started strongly and maintained control in their opponent’s territory right from the beginning. They were awarded a penalty in the ninth minute when Chitoshi Chinga fouled Patrick Otieno inside the box. Austin Odhiambo successfully converted with a right-footed shot to give Kenya the lead.
Ten minutes later, Patrick Otieno extended their advantage with an assist from Benson Omalla on the right side. Despite Zambia’s efforts to stage a comeback, Kenya held a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Zambia, the defending champions, attempted to mount a comeback, but Kenya’s defense remained solid and resilient.
In stoppage time after the 90th minute, Zambia’s Kelvin Kapumbu was shown a red card, worsening their 2-0 defeat in their Group B opener.
With this victory, Kenya now tops the group standings, followed by Zimbabwe in second place, while Comoros and Zambia occupy third and fourth places respectively.
