DP Gachagua’s Mt. Kenya Woes Deepen as Meru Leaders Distance Themselves from Him
A group of Meru leaders have distanced themselves from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s appeal for one man, one shilling, one vote. This is the latest in a string of political heavyweights from Central Kenya who appear to be undermining his political star.
The lawmakers expressed their disagreement with DP Gachagua’s demand that Members of Parliament reside in their districts during a press conference on Tuesday at the Parliament buildings.
The team’s leader, Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi, declared, “We will be wrong if we say other areas should not get development.”
Although the MPs disassociated themselves from Gachagua’s opinions, they denied knowing that there was a disagreement between President William Ruto and his deputy.
“We support the President said on the need for oneness as we operate in the country,” Mwirigi continued.
“The President and his deputy do not appear to be at odds with one another. It indicates that they are together when the DP bids the President farewell to Korea.
The MPs stated they would wait to voice their opinions on any proposed legislation before becoming involved in the “one man, one vote, one shilling” argument.
We will express our opinions when a plan similar to the BBI’s, which I supported, comes up.” Raheem Dawood, the MP for Imenti South said.
MPs Dorothy Ikiara, Mpuru Aburi, Julius Taituma, Dan Kili, and Moses Kirema joined Mwirigi and Dawood.
