EACC arrests senior government officials and directors over a Ksh55.8 million scam
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has obtained a court order to seize four properties worth more than Sh80 million from former Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine Lonolkulal, which are alleged to be proceeds of crime.
Lady Justice Esther Maina of the Milimani Law Courts ordered Lonolkulal to return Sh14.6 million, which had earlier been frozen, as well as pay the EACC’s legal fees.
The villas in Karen, Nairobi, were allegedly purchased with corrupt cash from the Samburu County Government. Lonolkulal must now return Sh 80,763,715.35 or surrender his possessions.
According to EACC’s Eric Ngumbi, the verdict stemmed from a case against Lonolkulal for illegally collecting the funds through a county contract.
Between 2013/2014 and 2018/2019, fuel supply payments were paid to Kenya Commercial Bank account number 1124724591, linked to Oryx Service Station Limited, which Lonolkulal utilized to purchase the Karen houses.
Justice Maina decided improperly contracted public monies are the proceeds of corruption and should be returned to the state.
