Ex-MP Kimani Ngunjiri Courts Gachagua Amid Fallout in Kenya Kwanza
Former Bahati Member of Parliament, Kimani Ngunjiri, has criticized certain political leaders for targeting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. His remarks follow weeks of speculation about a supposed rift between President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, amidst a fractured political landscape in the Mount Kenya region.
Ngunjiri pointed fingers at Ruto’s close allies, including Farouk Kibet, Oscar Sudi, and CS Kipchumba Murkomen, alleging their involvement in orchestrating a campaign against Gachagua. He claimed that they possess ample resources to execute their agenda, seemingly rallying behind Gachagua, who appears to be isolated by several politicians from the Mount Kenya region.
During a public address at the Endarasha Shopping Centre, Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, signalling a show of support amidst the ongoing political tension.
Recent events saw Gachagua conspicuously absent from significant public engagements alongside President Ruto for a week, leading to speculation about his whereabouts and relationship with his superior. He later emerged, explaining that he had taken a brief hiatus for prayer, meditation, and reflection in the Mount Kenya region, away from distractions.
Addressing mourners during a burial ceremony in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity in the region, despite apparent divisions and infighting among political heavyweights.
Ngunjiri commended the Deputy President for his efforts to reconcile with the former head of state, describing it as a commendable endeavour.
In a remorseful tone, Ngunjiri also appealed to former President Uhuru Kenyatta for forgiveness, acknowledging the tense political climate during the run-up to the 2022 General Election. He emphasized the need to prioritize peace and reconciliation, extending forgiveness to Kenyatta and seeking forgiveness from him.
The political realignments in the Mount Kenya region have led to the formation of two factions, one rallying behind Rigathi Gachagua and the other aligning with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
