Good Studying Habits That Lead to Success in School
Many factors can work together to make you excel in school. They range from being disciplined and organised, having proper syllabus coverage, and attending classes, among other things. However, developing good study habits is key and can help you post even bet-ter grades.
So what good study habits can you adopt to help you do better in school? To start with, you must learn how to plan your time well.Develop blocks of study time and prioritise assignments by postponing tasks or routines that can be done later. As such, you must have a personal timetable to help you manage you time.
Study and work for a specific length of time every day. You may want to try devoting an hour and a half after school to studying your lessons.Or you can schedule your study time at certain times during the night or week-end.The important thing is you stick to your plan.
Always do your readings aheadof the teacher. If you are currently on Chapter 5 of your English book with your teacher, aim to read a few extra chap-ters ahead. It does not hurt to be several pages ahead.
Indeed, doing advanced reading will help you prepare for the
next lesson.
Make it a habit to study the notes and lessons for that day as if you will be having a quiz the next day, even if there is not going to be one.
Many learners wait until work piles up,and they start experiencing anxie-ty due to time pressure.
Make simplified notes that can help with quick revision.Do not get lazy about writing in your notebook. Learn to jot down keywords, important phrases, and ideas your teacher tells your class.
Develop alternative study places free from distractions to maximise concentration. Television, radio,or a mobile phone can be such a distraction. Noise from people chatting can also distract from what you are reading.
Working in groups can also boost your study plan. Through groups, you can exchange notes or help each other an-swer questions. However, you must choose like minded people,as not everyone in a group can provide the needed support.
It is a good practice to avoid cramming, which is common among learners, especially during examination time. This can only help you in the short term but may pose challenges, especially with those questions that require the application of knowledge.
