Government Launches 2024 School Census
The launch of the 2024 census for basic education institutions in Kenya marks a collaborative effort between the government, the Ministry of Education, and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
At the event held at Moi Girls’ School in Nairobi, Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for Basic Education, highlighted the significance of this school census. The primary objective is to gather precise and comprehensive data encompassing students, teachers, infrastructure, and resources.
By collecting such detailed information, the ministry aims to enhance planning efficiency, resource allocation, and the monitoring and evaluation of educational programs across the country. This initiative is poised to bring about better facilities, targeted teacher training, and improved curriculum development, all geared towards creating an optimal learning environment for students.
The PS emphasized the pivotal role of accurate data, serving as the cornerstone for the ministry’s plans, policies, and strategies in advancing the educational landscape of Kenya. Accurate data not only facilitates the identification and remediation of gaps and disparities within the education system but also ensures equitable resource distribution, thereby enabling every child to access quality education regardless of their background.
Furthermore, PS Belio stressed that data-driven decision-making leads to enhanced educational outcomes, conducive school environments, and the fair distribution of resources. To streamline the process of data collection and processing, the ministry will leverage advanced technology and innovative methodologies, overcoming logistical hurdles and upholding data integrity.
