Gov’t Announces New Half-Term Dates for Schools
The Ministry of Education has taken steps to address the disruption caused by the flooding crisis on the academic calendar by revising the Half-Term dates for Term Two. Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang announced the changes on Wednesday, indicating that learners in pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools will now have their half-term break from 26th to 28th June 2024.
In a circular addressed to all County Directors of Education, Dr. Kipsang emphasized the need for adjustments to planned activities and schedules in light of the revised dates. He directed the dissemination of this information to all Head Teachers and Principals of schools under their jurisdiction.
Originally scheduled for reopening on April 29, 2024, schools faced delays due to adverse weather conditions caused by heavy rains. The reopening date was subsequently pushed to May 6th and further postponed to May 13th after weather forecasts indicated improved conditions suitable for resuming classes.
