Gov’t Lists Uhuru’s Retirement Benefits
The country’s first lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement payments were reportedly cut, but the administration has publicly denied any such allegations.
Government Spokesman’s say about the Former President’s Retirement Benefits
In a statement released on Friday, government spokesman Isaac Mwaura outlined the privileges given to the retired head of state and stated that President William Ruto’s administration has consistently upheld the constitution.
According to him, Uhuru is currently receiving a monthly income of Ksh. 1.6 million in addition to Ksh. 1 million in allowances. He had previously gotten an accumulative pension of Ksh. 48 million.
List of President’s Retirement Benefits
According to Mwaura these are the benefits of former President Uhuru Kenyatta:
- Comprehensive medical and hospital cover worth Ksh. 20 million for both local and overseas treatment for himself and his spouse.
- Furnished offices provided by the State.
- Allocation of 12 vehicles maintained and fueled by the government, including Toyota Land Cruisers, Mercedes Benz, Toyota Prados, Range Rovers, and a Subaru Forester.
- A 33-member staff enlisted and paid by the government.
- Fully furnished and maintained office space of his choice, paid for by the government.
- Entitlement to two new cars of his choice, replaceable every three years, with an engine capacity of at least 3000cc, and two other vehicles with an engine capacity of 3,400cc, also replaceable every three years.
Monthly allowances for former President Uhuru Kenyatta:
- Entertainment allowance: Ksh. 200,000
- House allowance: Ksh. 300,000
- Fuel allowance: Ksh. 200,000
- Allowance for water, electricity, and telephone services: Ksh. 300,000

Mwaura continued by enumerating the 33 employees that work in Uhuru’s office, including two private secretaries, three principal assistants to hospitality, two senior assistants to hospitality, two drivers, three assistants to public communication, two assistant superintendents of gardens, a head housekeeper, and a head waiter.
Additional personnel include three assistant hospitality officers, two physicians, one deputy director of programs, one director of hospitality, two photographers, two paramedics, one principal finance officer, one editor, one social media manager, and one director in the administrative services office.
The government spokesperson emphasized that all of the employees receive competitive pay, with some holding positions higher than Principal Secretary. He also mentioned that Uhuru is still protected as a VIP and that his residences remain as they are.
Retirement Benefits of Other Retired State Officers like Odinga, Kalonzo, moody Awoli etc…
Mwaura further pointed out that former vice presidents Moody Awori and Kalonzo Musyoka, as well as former prime minister Raila Odinga, had received the same retirement perks.
“In accordance with the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act following its gazettement in the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 108 (Act No. 12) of January 9, 2004, and the Presidential Retirement Benefits (Amendment) Act 2013 in the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 16 (Act No. 9) of January 25, 2013, the government also continues to honor and dignify other retired state officers, including the former prime minister Rt. Raila Odinga, the first retired vice president Moody Awori, and the second retired vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, each with three vehicles. Their vehicles will be swapped out on time,” he stated
