Heavy Traffic On Waiyaki Way Following Friday Night Rains
According to reports, there’s a severe traffic jam on Waiyaki Way, leaving thousands of drivers stranded.
Vehicles traveling towards Nairobi town are experiencing traffic on one side of the road.
“It started to rain at around 3 p.m., which is when the traffic started. “I have been stuck in traffic for almost two hours,” a driver going by the name Allan Kamau remarked.
About the impending rains, the Kenya Meteorological Department released a statement on Thursday.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning stating that there will be heavy rainfall from Thursday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4, in the Rift Valley and Nairobi regions. There is also a possibility that the rain may move to the northern parts of Kenya on May 3-5, 2024.
Nairobi drivers and pedestrians appeared to be in a panic due to the heavy rains that fell on Thursday night along with gusty winds and overcast skies.
As tens of Matatus and other public service vehicles plied the upcountry routes, office workers could be seen scrambling to get home from work in an attempt to beat the traffic that was steadily building up along Waiyaki Way.
Traffic was slowed down as a result of the brief rainfall flooding a portion of the former Westlands roundabout.
Numerous pedestrians are stranded at various bus stops in Westlands, including ABC, Safaricom stage, Sarit, Mosque, Uthiru, Kangemi, and Kinoo.
For drivers entering Nairobi from the western side of the capital, Waiyaki Way serves as their primary route.
Numerous drivers on the Waiyaki Way have experienced travel disruptions and financial depletion due to potholes on the main route.
According to reports, over a dozen cars strike the pothole in a single day, seriously damaging them and endangering lives.
The pothole, which has turned into a nightmare for drivers, is frequently difficult to spot from a distance, particularly for new drivers.
The pothole may be found when driving from Westlands into Nairobi town, namely close to Villa Rosa Kempinski. Its diameter and size have only increased due to the recent rains, thereby making it a death trap.
A driver who was struck by the hole and raised the alarm claimed that several other people had also damaged their wheel rims and suspensions in addition to their tires.
