How To Obtain Work Permits in Kenya
The core function of the Permits Section is the processing and issuance of work permits and passes. There are various classes of permits as provided under the enabling regulations.
The Section derives its mandate mainly from Sections 36, 40, 41, and 42, of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 and the attendant Regulations
Applications Submission and Collection
- All applications for Permits and Passes are made and submitted online accompanied by all the necessary requirements which should be uploaded.
- Applicants can print out their own Permits and Passes from their eFNS Accounts once they are processed and issued
The following are the types of work permits and their requirements:
Class A: (For prospecting and mining)
- A completed and signed Application Form 25
- An endorsed cover letter from the employer/self/organization, directed to the Director General of Immigration Services
- A photocopy of the national passport
- Two recent coloured passport-sized photographs
- Documentation verifying current immigration status if already present in the country
- For new cases, a valid organizational Tax Compliance Certificate, along with individual Tax Compliance Certificates for renewals
- A license permitting mineral mine prospecting
- Evidence of funds for investment, totalling a minimum of USD 100,000
- Current license and a copy of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate for renewal applications
- Signed audited accounts covering the preceding year, are required for renewal applications.
Fee: Processing- Kshs. 10,000 non-refundable
Issuance- Kshs. 100,000 per year
East Africa Community Member States – Gratis
Class B: (Agriculture and animal husbandry)
- Completed and signed Application Form 25
- Endorsed cover letter from the employer/self/organization, directed to the Director General of Immigration Services
- Photocopy of the national passport
- Two recent coloured passport-sized photographs
- Documentation verifying current immigration status if already within the country
- For new cases, a valid organizational Tax Compliance Certificate, along with individual Tax Compliance Certificates for renewals
- Evidence of land ownership or leasehold rights
- Bank statement demonstrating the availability of capital, with a minimum of USD 100,000
- Clearance or license from relevant authorities
- Copy of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate
- Current audited accounts are required for renewal applications.
Fee: Processing- Kshs. 10,000 non-refundable
Issuance- Kshs. 100,000 per year
East Africa Community Member States – Gratis
Class C: (Prescribed profession)
- A filled and signed application Form 25
- A cover letter, signed by the employer/self/organization, and addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services
- A duplicate of the national passport
- Two recent coloured passport-size photos
- Current immigration status documentation if already residing in the country
- A valid organizational Tax Compliance Certificate for new applications, and individual Tax Compliance Certificates for renewals
- Evidence of membership in a designated profession
- Certified copies of academic and professional qualifications
- A copy of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate
Class G: (Specific trade, business or consultancy)
- Completed and signed Application Form 25
- Endorsed cover letter from the employer/self/organization, directed to the Director General of Immigration Services
- Photocopy of the national passport
- Two recent coloured passport-sized photographs
- Documentation verifying current immigration status if already within the country
- For new cases, a valid organizational Tax Compliance Certificate, along with individual Tax Compliance Certificates for renewals
- Evidence of membership in a prescribed profession
- Certified copies of academic and professional qualifications
- Copy of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate
Fee: Processing- Kshs. 10,000 non-refundable
Issuance- Kshs. 100,000 per year
