‘It Hurts Me’: Linturi Breaks Down At Impeachment Hearing
While speaking before a parliamentary committee on Thursday regarding his impeachment case, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi became emotional.
Linturi, who was on the verge of tears, told the committee that the attempt to remove him from office by impeachment stemmed from a personal grudge with his ex-wife, Marianne Kitany, who is presently serving as the Aldai Constituency Member of Parliament.
He insisted that the court decisions cited in the impeachment motion, which justified his removal from office, were staged.
“Parties or individuals with whom we were sadly friends but who, for whatever reason, may not be particularly relevant to these proceedings, are at the centre of all these situations… That relationship did not last, and she chose to pursue numerous instances that I had to defend on her initiative.”
“And I didn’t lose any of the few chosen cases that are here. It’s been an extremely agonizing process. “It breaks me to think about it,” Linturi continued, his voice trembling with sorrow.
At this time, Muthomi Thiankulu, Linturi’s attorney, stepped in and advised him to lean on his Meru ancestry for support.
“Hon. Linturi, a Meru man is not permitted to break in in public. Just describe to the committee the difficulties you have faced as a result of this interpersonal conflict. Would you kindly elaborate on those difficulties? How long did these hardships last, who wrote them, and what form did they take? Linturi was led by Thiankulu.
Recalling that many of the incidents cited in the impeachment petition were driven by politics and had been mostly rejected by the courts, Linturi summoned his determination and presented it to the committee.
He argued that in the lead-up to the previous election, his opponents had coordinated the cases.
“Every conceivable tactic was employed to make me doubt the legitimacy of the candidate I was endorsing. And because it was in the early stages of most of these cases, the administration chose to seize the opportunity, grasp onto the cases, and seriously persecute me,” he stated. “Forever, the media has tried me. I was portrayed as a person, and there was a choreographer in a rape case, Linturi continued.
On the grounds of flagrant misconduct, substantial grounds to suspect the CS has broken national law and flagrant violations of the Constitution or any other legislation, he faces dismissal from office.
The hearing goes on.
