Machogu Releases KUCCPS Placement Results
The 2024 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has been released by the Ministry of Education, ensuring placement for at least 890,654 candidates who took the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
During the 2024 KUCCPS Stakeholders Forum held at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, the release of the report was announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Ezekiel Machogu. According to him, the data provided by the Kenya Examination Council has revealed that a total of 201,146 (22.5%) students achieved a mean grade of C+ and above, meeting the minimum requirement for Degree programme placement.
Machogu disclosed that out of the qualified students, 153,274 have been allocated to various Degree programmes in Universities, representing 76.2% of the eligible Kenyan students.
The processing of placement applications, Machogu stated, takes into account applicants’ choices, qualifications, and available capacities. He also highlighted the ongoing application process for Open University of Kenya (OUK) programmes through the KUCCPS portal, urging Kenyans to capitalize on the offered flexibility and enrol in globally competitive programmes.
The cumulative approved capacities in selected institutions, as announced by Machogu, were 1,078,806, distributed across Universities (degrees), TVET colleges and institutes, Teacher Training Colleges, and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Regarding students who achieved mean grades between C and E, Machogu mentioned that 694,086 were eligible for placement to Diploma, Craft, and Artisan programmes in TVET institutions.
With approvals from higher education and training regulators, KUCCPS provided courses offered in various institutions, including Universities, Teacher Training Colleges, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campuses, and public TVET colleges.
Machogu reported that 75,718 applicants secured places in TVET institutions, including those who qualified for degree programmes but opted for Diploma courses.
Additionally, in the Kenya Medical Training College, 56,516 individuals applied, of whom 19,653 were placed according to available slots.
He also highlighted admissions in Teacher Training Colleges for Diploma programmes, including placements for Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education Programme and Diploma in Primary Teacher Education.
At the event, Machogu launched the KUCCPS 2023–2027 Strategic Plan and released the 2024–2025 Placement Cycle Report, encouraging the KUCCPS Board to uphold equitable, fair, and efficient placement services.
He expressed confidence in the new Strategic Plan’s ability to maintain KUCCPS’s high standards, emphasizing its role in providing access to higher education and training.
The 2024 student placement process encompassed applicants for various programmes in universities and colleges, following the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination Results by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), providing performance data for 895,232 candidates to KUCCPS, with 890,654 deemed eligible for placement.”
