Man Utd To Sack Ten Hag Even If They Win FA Cup
According to a report on Friday by Britain’s The Guardian newspaper, embattled manager Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Manchester United following the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley, regardless of the outcome.
The decision comes amid a dismal season for the Premier League club, culminating in their lowest final position since 1990 and an early exit from the Champions League group stage.
If Ten Hag’s departure does transpire after the City clash, it would evoke memories of fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal’s swift exit from Old Trafford in 2016, just two days after United’s FA Cup final victory against Crystal Palace.
The club’s disappointing performance this season has intensified speculation about Ten Hag’s future, particularly since British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in the club and assumed control of football operations.
Despite reports of Ten Hag’s imminent departure, United maintain that no decision has been finalized, emphasizing that a comprehensive review will be conducted after Saturday’s final against the Premier League champions.
Nevertheless, the club has been linked with several potential replacements, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, England’s Gareth Southgate, and Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna.
United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, expressed his support for the manager, describing him as a “good guy” and a “positive coach” with strong tactical acumen. Onana acknowledged the challenges faced by Ten Hag this season, particularly due to injuries and underperforming star players.
Ahead of the final, Onana highlighted the significance of the match, viewing it as an opportunity for redemption and a chance to secure Europa League qualification. He emphasized the importance of ending the season on a positive note, suggesting that victory against their rivals would uplift the team and provide a silver lining to an otherwise challenging campaign.
