Nairobi – Mike Sonko, the former governor of Nairobi, has refuted allegations that he was involved in providing funds for violent protests.
Sonko denounced in a statement on Wednesday, July 3, those who had connected him to the violent protests in the Nairobi Central Business District.
The former governor played down claims that he paid thugs to steal stores and purchase coffins for demonstrators.
“I have seen people who like tarnishing my name by spreading cheap propaganda and lies with their fake intelligence as. I was the one who organised for the goons to loot in CBD na coffins to be brought to the CBD as well. Here is the correct intelligence: The coffins were purchased within the city. They were ferried to the CBD in a blue canter,” Sonko said.
Which role did Sonko in anti-finance bill protests?
The vocal lawmaker justified his affiliation with the demonstrators against Finance Bill 2024 by revealing that he exclusively provided ambulance donations for life-saving purposes. Sonko claims that when Gen Z asked for his assistance, he gave demonstrators water to drink.
