More Rains Are Expected on Thursday and Friday, the Weatherman Says
On Thursday and Friday, May 9 and 10, 2024, there will be continuous showers, the Kenya Meteorological Department has said.
Met issued an update on Thursday stating that different parts of the nation will continue to see rain.
The organization added that several areas of Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the North Coast, and the Offshore will have significant rainfall.
Kenyans were urged by the weatherman to plan ahead and take any necessary safety precautions.
The Kenya Met said in its weather outlook for May 7–13, released on Monday night, that rain will persist in numerous areas of the nation.
The agency stated that during the first half of the prediction period, “heavy rainfall events are likely in some parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Rift Valley.”
It further stated that extremely cold evenings, with temperatures below 10°C, will be seen in several areas, especially in the Central Highlands.
According to the advice, Nairobi, Kiambu, Narok, Machakis, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and Makueni counties may have overnight temperatures ranging from 10 to 15°C.
In Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Trans Nzioia, West Pokot, Kakamega, and Samburu, the situation would be the same.
The forecast stated that most of the coast, as well as northeastern and northwest Kenya, would see high average daily temperatures of more than 30°C.
The weatherman stated, “Rainfall intensities across the country are likely to reduce during the second half of the forecast period.”
The government, the meteorological service, and relief organizations like the Kenya Red Cross have not stopped warning Kenyans not to defy Mother Nature by trying to drive through flooded roads or cross flooded rivers.
This occurs at the same time that the nation continues to be devastated by floods brought on by persistently high rains.
The number of people killed by flood-related incidents as of Wednesday is 257.
According to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, there are currently 293,661 people affected by the rains, and 54,837 houses have been forced to evacuate.
Mwaura reported that there are still 188 injuries.
