Mothers’ Day: Two Generations Share Lessons And Experiences In Motherhood
The day their children called them “mama” for the first time is cherished by millions of mothers.
In honour of Mother’s Day today, Citizen Digital had a discussion on motherhood, how it influenced the women in their lives, and how parenting has evolved with a mother and her daughter.
Mother of four Anna Mutheu believes that being available is essential to being a good mother.
“Time goes by so quickly that it’s crucial to be purposeful and make the most of it. Despite this, I did not have the same opportunities that my daughter and my granddaughter will. She expresses happiness at having provided a path for them to follow and start their own life.
Being the eldest of ten siblings, Mutheu had to care for her younger siblings from a young age, which eventually made education difficult.
She promised to make sure her kids had a higher standard of living and education.
A good mother would do her best to support her children in their dreams and aspirations for themselves. The fact that all of my kids are doing well makes me glad.
Joyce Mueni, a mother of two, admits that her mother laid the groundwork for her and her siblings while providing little assistance and facing many obstacles.
She calls her mother a selfless, devoted, and loving person. She remembers with gratitude how her mother put in a lot of effort and saw to it that they had what they needed as children. adding that as a parent, her guiding principles are diligence, perseverance, and open communication.
‘’My mother has supported me wholeheartedly and exposed me to the world, allowing me to desire more from life. She had to learn most things the hard way, unlike me, which is why I value everything she does. I have learnt a great deal from her especially when it comes to my motherhood journey,” she says.
Mueni asserts that self-compassion is essential to motherhood. She adds that she thinks it’s important to be purposefully present as a mother.
Being more present with my children has always been one of my aims as a mother. Along with your kids, you should also be kind to yourself. Fortunately, there are networks of women similar to mine where other mothers share their stories, making you seem like you are not going through it alone,” the mother explains.
According to Mutheu, she is proud of her daughter’s self-assurance and her capacity to put in the effort necessary to realize her goals. She says that one of the best occupations in the world, in her opinion, is being a mother.
She continues, “Remember to celebrate yourself. Raising a generation is an honour. I would like to wish you a Happy Mother’s Day.”
Moms, Happy Mother’s Day!
