MP Wamboka’s Security Increased Amid Alleged Life Threats
Jack Wamboka, the Bumula MP, received further protection a few days after claiming to be in fear of death.
The resolution to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is being sponsored by Wamboka.
In his submission on Tuesday, Wamboka stated that he has been experiencing odd events ever since the motion was adopted in front of the 11-member select committee looking into the charges against the CS.
“I have been followed by unmarked cars and unknown people; it is not easy but I will soldier on for the integrity of the Republic of Kenya,” Wamboka stated to the Select Committee.
He asked the committee members to make sure members are more secure in these kinds of circumstances.
Committee chair Naomi Waqo stated in a statement following the hearings on Friday that the issue has been adequately resolved.
According to Waqo, the request filed by the committee through the National Assembly clerk has been granted by the Inspector General of Police.
“I wish to update you that the clerk has since liaised with the inspector general of police and the personal security of the sponsor has been enhanced accordingly,” she said.
On Monday, Linturi is expected to learn his fate.
To compose the report that will be presented before Monday’s extraordinary session of the House, the committee has withdrawn.
A notice of motion for the report’s consideration will also be issued by it.
Waqo was certain that the committee had carried out its duties following the mandate.
“We shall analyse every evidence that was submitted to this committee by all the parties and make our findings by the requirements of Article 152 (9) of the constitution,” she stated.
There won’t be any more actions taken if the select committee reports that the claims are unfounded.
The Cabinet Secretary may be heard by the National Assembly if the Select Committee determines that the accusations are true.
Within 14 days after the Notice of Motion for the Adoption of the Committee’s Report was given, the National Assembly should have concluded its discussion of the Select Committee’s report.
The CS will appear before the House on a date determined by the House to address any questions raised by the Committee’s conclusions and/or to offer additional clarifications.
