ODM Flood Donations Drive In Mathare Interrupted By Goons
On Wednesday, a scheduled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) speech in Mathare was thrown into disarray when a group of boisterous youths showed up with signs criticizing local MP Anthony Oluoch.
This happened when members of the ODM party, under the direction of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, presented a shipment of donations for Mathare citizens affected by flooding as part of relief operations run by the ODM Disaster Response Committee.
The ODM team’s decision to address the assembly from the deputy commissioner’s office balcony signaled trouble.
The local MP, Oluoch, addressed his constituents from the platform as is customary at political gatherings in the area before prominent ODM figures, including Sifuna and former governors Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, who are the party’s deputy party leaders, could follow suit.
But the gatecrashers weren’t buying what Oluoch was selling; they kept making fun of him and cutting him off throughout his speech. It forced Sifuna to take charge of the proceedings, hurrying through the agenda and giving Joho and Oparanya a time to speak before shoving everyone out.
In a ceremony chaired by Joho and Oparanya, ODM distributed its first round of donations for flood victims on Tuesday at Chungwa House in Nairobi.
This came after a similar declaration on Saturday. We will be flagging off this consignment at Chungwa House on Tuesday, May 14 at 10 a.m. Our main requests are for food products such as rice, beans, corn flour, and cooking oil in packs.
The party then declared, “We request blankets, mattresses, and housing prefabs for non-food items.” “Let us stand with the great people of Kenya during this difficult time.”
Donations for the cause should be sent to Chungwa House, according to the party, which maintains that all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation, will benefit from the contributions.
