‘Report Will Be Made Public,’ CS Duale Details Progress of Probe Into Cdf Ogolla Chopper Crash
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced that the investigation report into the tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the death of Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla will be disclosed to the public. Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive Show, Duale stated that a comprehensive inquiry into General Ogolla’s death was ongoing, with multi-agency teams dispatched to the United States to investigate Bell Textron Inc., the company that manufactured the helicopter involved in the incident.
“Our investigations and inquiry are ongoing, led by a competent team of Airforce and other officers from different services. We have escalated our engagement to include the manufacturer, Bell, in the U.S., as they also have a stake in this matter,” Duale remarked.
He assured the public that, in line with President William Ruto’s commitment to uncovering the root cause of the accident, the findings would be transparently presented to the nation, irrespective of the outcome.
“The Defence Council will receive the report, as will the Commander in Chief, Kenyan taxpayers who fund the military, and the family and friends of General Ogolla,” he affirmed.
Addressing concerns about the state of military equipment in Kenya, Duale refuted claims that obsolete equipment was to blame for aircraft crashes, citing his personal use of the same helicopter model that was involved in General Ogolla’s demise on numerous occasions.
“I have flown in the same aircraft that was involved in General Ogolla’s accident more than 15 times. It is a unique machine used in challenging terrains, even by our troops,” Duale explained.
He also highlighted the recent helicopter crash in Iran, involving the same manufacturer and model, to underscore the reliability of the aircraft.
“The helicopter in which the Iranian President and his foreign minister died is the same model from Bell in the U.S., with two propellers,” Duale revealed.
Duale’s comments come amid calls from the opposition for the government to intensify investigations into General Ogolla’s death and to disclose the findings to the public promptly. Opposition leader Martha Karua expressed concern over the security of high-ranking officials following the accident, emphasizing the urgency of obtaining answers regarding the crash.
